Ingredients:

1/2 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup whole milk

For the Filling:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup peanut butter (optional, for a nutty flavor)

For Decoration:

Heart-shaped sprinkles (red and pink)

Instructions:

Prepare the Batter:

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well. Gradually alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.

Shape and Bake:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Use a spoon or small ice cream scoop to drop rounded portions of the batter onto the baking sheets, spacing them evenly. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cakes spring back when lightly touched. Let them cool completely on wire racks.

Prepare the Filling:

In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with the heavy cream, until smooth and fluffy. Stir in vanilla extract. For a nutty variation, mix in the peanut butter.
Assemble the Whoopie Pies:
Spread or pipe the filling onto the flat side of one whoopie pie and sandwich it with another.

Decorate:

Spread a small amount of filling on top of each whoopie pie and sprinkle with heart-shaped decorations. Lightly press the sprinkles into the filling to ensure they adhere.

Decoration Tips:

Use a piping bag for the filling to create clean and even layers inside and on top of the whoopie pies.
Arrange the pies on a white or pastel plate to highlight the chocolatey richness and colorful decorations.
Add a few sprinkles around the serving plate for an extra festive touch.
